Jordanian King meets German chancellor

Amman, June 21 (BNA): King Abdullah II of Jordan has today held a session of talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, currently on visit to Amman.
Jordanian News Agency (Petra) said that two leaders had focused on strategic partnership, regional and international developments and efforts to promote the peace process.

The Jordanian monarch stressed the need to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Palestinians on the basis of the two-state formula, the Arab Peace Initiative and the international resolutions, towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He stressed the necessity of reaching a political solution to the crisis in Syria, to protect the country’s territorial integrity and the unity of its people.

The German Chancellor also highlighted key regional issues, highlighting particularly, security challenges, the Iranian nuclear deal, and the Iranian presence in some countries in the region. She stressed the need to address these issues and ensure their settlement.

The two sides underlined the need to continue coordination and consultation between the two countries, regarding issues of mutual interest as well was regional and international developments so as to contribute to achieving security and stability in the region and the world.
