Jakarta, May 25 (BNA): The Indonesian Parliament has today, Friday, endorsed a new anti-terrorism law which grants more power to police to take pre-emptive actions, as the nation aims to fight a surge in homegrown militancy marked by a spate of bloody suicide attacks which hit the country recently.
The German News Agency said that the new legislation would allow longer prison sentences in terror crimes and enable the Indonesian authorities to sue citizens who fought alongside extremist groups abroad. The new law authorizes also the Indonesian army to take part in counter-terror operations.
