Manama, May 23 (BNA): The health authorities said that no cases of deadly Nipah virus had been detected in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Mariam Al-Hajeri reassured the public, as the outbreak of the virus claimed several lives in the state of Kerala in Southern India.

Health Minister Faeqa bin Said Al-Saleh met Indian officials in Geneva, on the sidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) meetings, and discussed the current health situation.

The Indian officials said that their country had taken all required measures, in compliance with the WHO instructions to contain the virus and avert an epidemic outbreak.

Meanwhile, officials representing the directorates of public health and primary healthcare held a meeting, in the backdrop of current developments, and discussed preventive measures to prevent any Nipah virus outbreak in Bahrain.

“The ministry monitors the current developments, in coordination with the World Health Organisation and other competent international medical institutions”, said Dr. Al-Hajeri.
