Oil Minister opens conference

Manama, Mar.14 (BNA): Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa inaugurated the Gulf Downstream Association (GDA) at the Four Seasons Hotel.
The event was attended by Kuwaiti Minister of Petroleum and Minister of Electricity and Water Bakhait bin Shabib Al Rashidi, local and international petroleum officials, executive heads, general managers, as well as a large number of oil engineers.

The minister expressed his thanks and gratitude to the leadership for the support to the oil and gas and petrochemical sector in the prosperous era of His Majesty the King, who had positive and honorable results in ensuring the sustainability of economic growth.

He welcomed the announcement of the Gulf Downstream Association in the Kingdom of Bahrain, praising the efforts exerted to obtain publicity by the government parties.

He stressed Bahrain’s keenness on the success of the establishment of these specialized associations and providing the necessary support in order to achieve the objectives non-profit institutions which, he said, contribute to enhancing cooperation and coordination for exchanging views on Oil and Gas Market and provide opportunities for communication and exchange of information and expertise for specialists and interested in the advancement of the future of the oil and gas sector in the GCC countries.

He congratulated the oil companies of the consortium- Saudi Aramco, Kuwait International Petroleum Company, Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Kuwait National Petroleum Company and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).


He said that the GDA will have the regional and global leadership to be a platform and a forum that combines oil refineries, gas plants, distribution plants and petrochemical complexes in GCC’s oil and gas companies to address issues, review management, technical solutions, share practical experiences, best practices and developments, discuss the current status of the refining industry and to review the practical experiences of successful development projects in different regions of the world.

He welcomed all delegations and participants from all over the world, wishing them a pleasant stay in their country of the Kingdom of Bahrain and taking advantage of all the international events that are taking place in the region by GDA to raise the level of development and improvement strategies in their institutions and their countries.

He said that GDA has formed eight specialized technical teams, including health, safety and environment, excellence in operation, reliability, integrity, technology, energy, manpower development, etc., which were formed from the refineries of the founding companies of the association, as well as from the global Consultancy firms and keenness on periodic meetings for every three months and to get a close view at what the refineries and the facilities of oil companies under the umbrella of GDA are facing.

He also praised the signing of bilateral agreements and the joint work with the world's leading consulting companies in providing technologies for providing specialized courses and technical workshops to be presented to the engineers of the founding companies and members of the GDA.


He hailed planned conferences and exhibitions and attracting national and international expertise, including the GDA Conference and Exhibition to be held on 23-25 October 2018, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister Which is expected to attract about 1500 delegates and 200 speakers from 150 companies from 40 countries and more than 4500 visitors.

Bakhait bin Shabib Al Rashidi, Minister of Petroleum and minister of Electricity and Water of the State of Kuwait, expressed his thanks and appreciation to Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil for his efforts and support to GDA.


He expressed his hope that GDA fulfill its mission in achieving the strategic objectives for which it had been established.

Mohamed Ghazi Al Mutairi, Chairman of GDA, Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait National Oil Company had his speech as well on the subject matter. The opening ceremony was also attended by a discussion session on refining opportunities and the role played by GDA.

Nizar Al-Adasani, Vice Chairman of GDA, CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Abdulaziz Al-Jadaimi of Saudi Aramco and Dr. Peter Birlt, CEO of Bapco were the main panelists.
